The energy road: this is the experience of visiting an electrical substation

El Camino de La Energía Conecta Guatemala

Launched in August 2018, Conecta’s “The Energy Road” offers a unique experience both in-person and virtual, opening the doors of its facilities to showcase the journey electricity takes from its generation, transportation and distribution, until it lights up our homes and businesses.

This educational adventure reveals the complexities of the energy sector and highlights the sustainable technology, and practices employed.

Exploring the electric energy pathway

The “Energy Road” experience begins with an in-depth look at the various forms and technologies of power generation converging in the national marketplace.

Moving forward, we enter the territory of the imposing transmission towers. Here, myths are debunked, and we learn about the robust metallic structures that, far from being mere supports, play a crucial role in the transportation of energy. Each precision-engineered tower and cable is equipped with redundancy systems that ensure continuity of service even in the event of failure.

At this stage, the group learns that these infrastructures, contrary to myths, are designed to coexist without adverse impacts on our health.

Substations: critical nodes in the network

The next stop is the substations, where the high voltage is transformed to the appropriate voltages to reach the distributors and marketers. Here, visitors witness how energy distribution is orchestrated through sophisticated security and monitoring systems. Specialized computers monitor every parameter, automatically adjusting to ensure that power flows efficiently to cities and towns, keeping the grid safe and stable.

During this segment, the guides also demonstrate how these nerve centers can respond to emergencies in real time, ensuring that power continues its journey.

More than a tour: a transformative experience

“The Energy Road” much more than just a technical tour; it’s an experience that breaks down the complexity of electricity supply in a way that everyone can understand and appreciate. With each step and explanation, Conecta educates about the flow of electricity and inspires greater respect for the efforts it takes to keep our lights on.

By opening its doors to the community, Conecta engages beyond transporting energy; it reaches out to educate so that people know how the company improves lives with sustainable and competitive energy for Guatemala. This tour is not just a physics or engineering lesson, but a window into a company’s commitment to its community and country.
