“Customer service is key, a good attitude is second to none.”
Recruiting human talent is a task as meticulous as finding the right piece of a puzzle: it may have all the elements such as shape and color, but if it is not the right one, it will not complete the picture. Selecting the right employee for a job is an art, “it requires a clinical eye,” says Jessica Mayorga, Talent Management analyst.
She remembers happy moments from her childhood, but she also highlights a curious fact: “I was a shy child”. Time and experiences shaped her personality. At school she was trained as a bilingual secretary and her first work experiences coincided with this career: first in an insurance company, then in a bank.
The bank was, without looking for it, a stepping-stone to a position in Human Resources. They had seen her leadership, excellent customer service and attitude. “Customer service is key, a good attitude is unmatched”, Jessica believes and has implemented it in each of the roles she has played in companies with different business lines: banking, agribusiness, even social foundations.
In college she studied Human Resources Administration, “I love my area: attending to people, having them call me, asking questions and supporting them”. One of the jobs that marked her career was in a pediatric foundation, where doctors donated their time and knowledge to do workshops. However, the economic situation was complicated because they depended on different sectors. When she oversaw the area, she learned to look for solutions and be transparent with the team, “people always expect you to be able to solve situations or give answers.
One of her mentors was one of her bosses, “I have always said that knowledge is shared” and that is exactly what she did. She accompanied her in her first interviews, she guided her to identify the characteristics required by the person who would occupy a certain position, in a way, she helped her to develop that “clinical eye” to choose the right candidate. Another of her lessons learned was in the sugar mill where she worked and strengthened her ability to work on objectives, to be more independent and empowered in her tasks.
She has been part of the Talent Management team at Conecta since September last year and enjoys the work environment, “this company has something special: camaraderie”. She knows well the importance of a good work environment; it is key to achieve success. However, there is a key piece “everything is based on a good attitude: every day I say to myself: today will be a great day, everything will go well”.
